About Hvar

It's easy to see why Hvar is such a popular town on this beautiful Dalmatian Riviera island, where terracotta tiled houses cling to the lush hillside rising from the pretty yacht-filled harbour.

The area is rich in history and known for its medieval architecture. Take in the incredible views over Hvar and the surrounding islands from the 16th century Fortica Fortress. Or visit the cathedral dedicated to St Stephen and the Bishop's Palace, which forms one side of St Stephen's square. The Franciscan monastery, founded in 1461, is home to an intriguing museum and also well worth investigating.

The area benefits from the Mediterranean climate known as 'the climate of the olive tree'. As a result it enjoys a characteristic clear blue sky for the majority of the year, so you may just want to watch the world go by from one of Hvar's many open-air cafés.

Visit Stari Grad with its majestic bay, enjoy local wine tasting in Vrisnik and see the sights of Hvar Town.

Hvar is rich in cultural and historical monuments that can still be seen in many of the towns and villages. Your scenic drive will take you from Hvar to Stari Grad, a small town renowned for its stunning bay, which has long inspired artists and poets. Stari Grad has majestic surrounding countryside and, like the rest of the island, it is famed for its mild climate and lush subtropical vegetation. Pause for a photo stop at a view point that affords vistas to both sides of the island, the archipelago and Stari Grad. The town of Stari Grad was the largest settlement on the island and it dates back to the 2nd century BC. After a brief guided tour, you’ll have a short amount of free time in the town.

Continue to the village of Vrisnik, where your friendly host will welcome you to his traditional country home and introduce you to the local fine wines produced during a special wine tasting accompanied by local ham and cheese. The island wines range from light whites to full-bodied reds; all of them made locally and produced only in small quantities. You will have the opportunity to taste some of the finest wines produced on the island.

During the journey back to Hvar you’ll be treated to magnificent views of the town and Pakleni Islands. Your tour will conclude on the main town square, a short walk to the ship.
