Mangalore

Nestled between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghat mountain range, Mangalore is a major Indian port situated on the backwaters of the Netravati and Gurupura rivers. The largest city of the Tulu Nadu region, Mangalore is one of the fastest-developing conurbations in India. In stark contrast to this title, Mangalore still boasts a luscious and unspoilt landscape, with rolling hills, coconut palms and freshwater streams.

If you're looking for adventure, head to the Western Ghats and get stuck in to the dense jungle landscape. Or take a bus down to Mulki to check out India's first surf club. Mangalore itself has many clean and beautiful beaches; scramble across the rocks on Someshwar beach to the south of the city for the rich reward of one of India's beautiful sunsets. Travel north and Panambur beach is the ideal location for safe and secluded swimming, or journey just beyond for Suratkal beach and its luxurious velvet sand.
