Adventures for Adonia

Adonia’s new cruise collection will take guests up the Amazon River and will discover lesser-explored corners of the Caribbean

The small ship with big charm, Adonia goes where none of her sisters can. In winter 2018/19, our discovery ship will travel south to take guests 500 miles up the Amazon River to Santarem. Here, beyond the bustling harbour, you can unleash your inner explorer in the Tapajós National Forest by foot or on the emerald-blue waters of the Tapajós River by boat on one of the shore excursions we offer, accompanied by the soundtrack of exotic jungle life.

Adonia will also embark on new round-trip Caribbean cruises from Barbados, including some lesser-known ports of call. Virgin Gorda, for example, is one of the British Virgin Islands’ beauties, bursting with pristine beaches and brimming with billionaires and movie stars – but free from crowds. A highlight is The Baths, where huge granite boulders form secret rock pools along the shore. It’s ideal for swimming and snorkelling, and can be visited easily on one of several shore excursions.

She’ll also call at Bequia, which boasts the Caribbean’s most protected natural harbour, Admiralty Bay, and a charming, villagey capital. Plus, on a special shore excursion you can visit the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary, where young Hawksbill turtles are cared for from birth until they can be tagged and returned to the ocean.

Another unique stop for Adonia is Mayreau, which is home to just 200 people – somewhere you really can call unspoilt. And then there’s Saint Barthelemy – or St Barts – whose dramatic cliffs, undulating hills and turquoise bays also make it a hotspot for the rich and famous. Expect opulent hotels, fine dining and boutique shopping, but also a gorgeous yacht-filled harbour and plenty of kitesurfing, diving and snorkelling.

A more intimate affair

Travelling on Adonia is quite a different experience to our other ships. She’s exclusively for adults and the smallest in our fleet, carrying just 710 guests – so faces will soon become familiar. Inside, beautifully crafted wood panelling, traditional décor and a gorgeous grand staircase give Adonia a truly timeless feel, while her recently updated soft furnishings add a lighter, brighter look to her cabins.

Despite her small size, you’ll still find an impressive choice of places to eat on board – from world-class dining in the Pacific Restaurant, Marco Pierre White’s Ocean Grill or Olly Smith’s The Glass House (a new addition), to the more relaxed Conservatory Buffet or outdoor Lido Café. There’s also Raffles, the hub of Adonia, which serves fresh coffee and snacks during the day and delicious cocktails in the evening, expertly prepared by our friendly bartenders.

You’ll also be spoilt for choice in terms of entertainment. As on all our fleet, Adonia boasts a fully equipped gym, with helpful instructors and a range of fitness classes, as well as a packed agenda of quizzes, sports events, dance classes, talks and demonstrations. Or, of course, you can just sit and watch the clouds go by with a cool G&T in Anderson’s or The Crow’s Nest – or even by the pool, as we’ll gladly bring your drink to your sun lounger by the Crystal Pool.

In the evening, head to the Curzon Lounge for live music and dancing, while Adonia’s impressive card room is the perfect setting for games night and day. The Library, complete with fireplace and comfy chairs, contains everything you could possibly want, from the latest fiction to travel books and atlases. And there’s also a brand-new outdoor cinema on the Lido deck, which shows new and classic films.

Finally, for retail therapy choose between Mayfair for designer clothes and holiday gifts, or the Emporium for that little something you forgot to pack.

Everything you need you’ll find on board, so just sit back, relax, and let Adonia take you on an adventure…
