Stars of stage and screen boarded Britannia in Southampton on 17 June for the official premiere of Astonishing, a revolutionary magic and illusion show produced for P&O Cruises by BAFTA-winning presenter and entertainer Stephen Mulhern and performer Jonny Wilkes.

A brand-new show for P&O Cruises, Astonishing combines the production talents of Stephen and Jonny with the spectacular dance moves of leading choreographer Paul Domaine and the mind-blowing trickery of master illusionist Guy Barrett, creating a multisensory show that wows audiences night after night.

Celebrities who attended the premiere included ITV’s Declan Donnelly and his wife Ali Astall, Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard, singer Chesney Hawkes, Coronation Street’s Tristan Gemmill and Matilda Freeman, and EastEnders and Holby City actress Nina Wadia. Suffice to say, the show delivered on its promise and wowed the crowds.

On Twitter, Ben Shephard raved: ‘Massive congrats to @Jonny_Wilkes +@StephenMulhern @pandocruises on the launch of their show #astonishing. It’s just spectacular, we didn’t want to leave!!’

Declan Donnelly was equally impressed, Tweeting: ‘Congratulations to @Jonny_Wilkes and @StephenMulhern on the premiere of #Astonishing on @pandocruises #britannia today. We had a great time watching. It was incredibly clever. God knows how cos neither of them are x’.

The show has been two years in the making and Stephen and Jonny have been there from the beginning. From planning to the premiere, they’ve immersed themselves in the details, be it early concept stages or casting and costumes.

Stephen Mulhern said: ‘Astonishing is a show like no other and I get goosebumps just thinking about it. Producing this show with Jonny is the culmination of a dream for me. I obviously don’t want to give anything away so all I will say is that it does exactly what it says on the tin and the audience should be prepared to be amazed.’

Jonny Wilkes added: ‘It’s been a long time in the making, but the show is now readyand we know that it’s certainly going to be astonishing.’

P&O Cruises is proud to be showing Astonishing on board Azura, Britannia and Ventura, and we can’t wait to welcome you on board to see it for yourself. ‘As its name implies, Astonishing is an extraordinary and visionary show that is unlike anything seen before on a UK stage,’ says P&O Cruises senior vice president Paul Ludlow. ‘With plenty of surprises for the audience, it takes entertainment to an entirely new level and is truly game-changing.’
