Musician, cheesemaker and recent Battlechefs contestant Alex James will join Food Hero Marco Pierre White on Britannia in July

From Q&A sessions and book signings to opportunities to cook alongside celebrity chefs or attend intimate hosted dinners with them, our popular Food Hero cruises offer guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with our culinary stars. This summer, we have a unique chance to experience a Food Hero cruise with a difference.

Special summer cruise

For one cruise only, musician, award-winning cheesemaker and recent Battlechefs contestant Alex James will join Food Hero Marco Pierre White on Britannia for part of her 14-night school holiday cruise around the Mediterranean in July. The charismatic duo will be joining forces for a special selection of events, including a hosted dinner and cooking masterclass, as well as each taking part in a shore excursion in Cadiz.

The cruise reunites the pair on our flagship following UKTV’s programme Battlechefs, which aired in the spring. The series saw two groups of five celebrities, including Alex, battle it out in the kitchen of Britannia’s The Cookery Club to rustle up a feast for judge Marco Pierre White, the ship’s Captain and VIP guests. Australian choreographer and Dancing on Ice judge Jason Gardiner won the first week of the show, with Boyzone’s Keith Duffy winning in the second week.

Guests on this cruise can join Alex and Marco at The Cookery Club for a special four-course meal with wine. For something more hands on, a cookery class run by the duo will celebrate Mediterranean speciality dishes. Alex and Marco will also each join guests on a shore excursion in Cadiz on 2 August, where they will share their foodie knowledge and insider tips. Join Marco Pierre White at the fish market in Cadiz as he describes how to use the produce on sale to create some authentic dishes, followed by a delicious lunch at the Restaurante El Faro de Cadiz, where you can chat more to the Michelin-starred chef. Or join cheese aficionado Alex and indulge in the taste of El Bosqueño cheese on a visit to the El Bosqueño Cheese Museum and Interpretation Centre, followed by some tasty tapas at the restaurant Café Royalty (as featured on Battlechefs). The hosted dinner, cookery class and shore excursions can be pre-booked via Cruise Personaliser.

Mediterranean summer

As well as the unique foodie experience of this cruise, guests will be treated to an itinerary bursting with Mediterranean gems. Historic Cadiz in Spain, thought to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in Europe, is the first stop on this two-week jaunt around the Med. The compact Andalusian city, with its picturesque old town almost entirely surrounded by water, is easily discovered on foot and is the perfect launching pad to delve into the heart of Andalusia, with shore excursions to its capital Seville.

Next up is the vibrant Catalan capital of Barcelona. With its mile-long beach a short walk from its buzzing centre, a rich history and Gaudi sights aplenty, you won’t be bored in this city by the sea. From there you’ll visit a destination famous for four ‘G’s’: Grimaldi monarchy, Grand Prix, glamour and gambling. Monte Carlo is the perfect place to sip an apéritif and soak up the glitzy world of the rich and famous who visit it.

The next three ports of call demonstrate Europe’s wealth of beautiful and ancient sights. The Italian gems of Florence/Pisa (tours from Livorno) and Rome (tours from Civitavecchia) provide the perfect opportunity to tick off destinations on your bucket list, while the ancient city of Cartagena in Spain will wow you with its 2,000 years of history. On the journey home you’ll visit St Peter Port, one of the prettiest towns in the Channel Islands and once home to French literary giant, Victor Hugo.
