Suite dreams

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or want a bit more space for the family to spread out, a Suite is your very own sanctuary at sea

A suite is more than just a place to stay; it's an experience...

A P&O Cruises holiday is full of luxuries, from incredible entertainment to delectable dining. But if you’re looking to make your holiday even more special, why not upgrade your accommodation with a stay in a Suite?

All our ships have a range of Suites and Mini-suites that offer the opportunity to travel in style, providing luxury and space on a grand scale and the perfect finishing touches. The pampering starts with Champagne and chocolates on arrival – just a taste of what’s to come. Throughout your stay you’ll enjoy treats such as fresh fruit and daily deliveries of canapés, a bathrobe and slippers, 24-hour room service (free of charge in a Suite) and the option of a personal butler (Suites only), who can help with everything from unpacking your luggage to booking shore excursions.

Your Suite itself is a spacious and relaxing haven at the end of a busy day. Mini-suites offer such amenities as a sizeable bathroom with luxury toiletries; a lounge area with sofa, chairs and table; and floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to a balcony with a table and chairs. The larger Suites, meanwhile, offer the above plus a dressing area.

On Iona, we’re introducing a new cabin type: the Conservatory Mini-suite. The concept brings the outdoors in with a personal and versatile conservatory-style room that forms an extension to the cabin, offering great flexibility and creating a distinctive relaxation and socialising space.

The benefits of booking a Suite extend beyond your cabin. You can enjoy other extras throughout your cruise including priority check-in and boarding in Southampton, free use of the hospitality lounge in Southampton, a reception on embarkation day and breakfast in an exclusive venue.

Here, we speak to three guests about their experiences in a Suite and how it took their holiday to another level.

Room to roam: Suites for families with younger children

Emma Mahoney travelled to the Canary Islands on Aurora with her husband Andy and her two children, James (11) and Sienna (6). She tells us how a stay in a Suite offered more space, more luxury and more time to focus on fun.

‘On our recent holiday to the Canary Islands, we stayed in a Suite for the first time. The first moment we opened the door was magical – we couldn’t believe how much space we had. It was a real “wow, check out the size of this cabin!” moment. The Champagne and chocolates left on our dining room table were very much appreciated, too.

A Suite brings a sense of luxury. Our room had a whirlpool bath and separate shower; the pillow menu was fantastic; then there was the attentive, friendly and helpful service we got from our butler. Every little detail is personalised to your tastes. We also thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfast in The Glass House every morning – the buffet is great, but when you have two children to take care of, eating in a Select Dining venue makes life a little more straightforward.

Staying in a Suite gave us an entirely different holiday experience. We also had so much more time – if we ever needed anything, we just called Raj (our butler) and he sorted it out for us, leaving us free to concentrate on having a great time. Raj was on call if we ever needed anything, like organising and changing Select Dining and spa appointments. He also sorted out our Freedom Dining every night, so all we needed to do was waltz down to dinner at the agreed time, which was lovely.

A Suite is a great choice for families because it gives you that little extra room. Having more than one bathroom is a revelation. You can also get on board earlier, so you can start your holiday sooner. On the occasions when Andy and I went out for a special meal (just the two of us), Raj organised room service tea for the children so we could get ready while they ate.

The children couldn’t believe how fantastic the room was. They used the extra space to play hide and seek: Sienna hid in the cupboard in the dressing area and this had James foxed for quite some time! They loved having their own TV and DVD player, plus Raj brought them special treats every evening. They both adore the children’s clubs and came away every day having made lots of great friends and played some exciting games.

If you’re considering booking a Suite for your family on your next P&O Cruises holiday, I say do it! You won’t regret it.’

Breathing room: Suites for adult families

Nicole Watkins enjoyed a stay in a Suite with her parents on a seven-night cruise to Hamburg, Amsterdam and Le Havre on Azura. With extra space and little luxuries, it was the perfect choice for an adult family.

‘This was the first time I’d stayed in a Suite, and my first impression was how much space there was. There was a separate lounge area with a sofa, chairs and a table and a very large balcony, which made it ideal for the three of us sharing.

The whole experience of staying in a Suite made our holiday special. We had priority boarding in Southampton; Champagne, chocolates, dressing gowns and slippers in our cabin on arrival; and daily canapés to enjoy when we were getting ready for the evening on board.

The extra space is great for families. We could all comfortably sit in the lounge area after we got back on board from a day in port, or sit on the balcony with a pre-dinner drink. I especially enjoyed the whirlpool bath, the coffee machine in our cabin, and breakfast in The Epicurean each morning, which was a real luxury and tasted amazing.

The butler service was great. He helped us book Select Dining restaurants and spa treatments, but most of all we really enjoyed chatting to him each day before dinner. He had such interesting stories to tell.

Overall, our stay in a Suite made us feel special. A Suite really isn’t just a cabin on a ship – it’s a whole unique experience.’

Travelling in style: Suites for couples

Mike and Sarah O’Connor from Hampshire recently enjoyed a Short Break to Bruges on Azura. For them, a Suite is the only way to travel

‘We’re serial cruisers. Every year, we like to take a Short Break – it’s so convenient to pop down to Southampton to get away for the weekend. And every time we do, we book a Suite.

I remember the first time I stepped foot in a P&O Cruises Suite. It certainly had that ‘wow’ factor – there was no doubt we were in a Suite. There were chocolates and Champagne, robes and slippers – everything was laid out nicely and waiting for us. It was clear that the crew really took the time to look at every detail. It was a very pleasant experience and we had everything we needed. Since then, we’ve always booked a Suite for our cruises.

It’s the little extras in a Suite that make your holiday special. You’ve got the additional space, the luxury products in the bathrooms, priority boarding in Southampton, a Champagne reception and breakfast in The Epicurean. You’ve also got the butler service, if you require it. On our most recent cruise, our butler was on hand to order canapés and top up our Champagne. We were looked after very well.

A Suite is a good choice for couples because it allows you to have the kind of holiday you want, whatever that might be. You can immerse yourself in life on board, or you could choose the options that offer more privacy. You’re given everything you could possibly wish for in a Suite. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a two-day cruise or a two-week cruise – you’ll be looked after and respected. We have a great experience each and every time.

For couples who are thinking of travelling in a Suite on their next holiday, I’d say definitely do it, without a shadow of a doubt. Everything is at your fingertips. I’d certainly recommend the experience to anyone. I simply can’t fault it.’
