Our Personal Cruise Specialist thrives on the excitement of matching people with their perfect cruise

Personal Cruise Specialist, Victoria Palfrey

I love the formal nights. Who doesn't enjoy dressing up, drinking Champagne and eating great food? - asks Victoria

How long have you worked for P&O Cruises?

I started here a year and a half ago. I used to work on board in the spa as a hairdresser, so I have a great insight into life at sea.

What does your job involve?

I’d describe my role as being like a personal shopper for cruising. I spend most of my day on the phone to guests who are thinking about their holiday plans. It’s my job to match them with their ideal cruise. I get a real kick from chatting to them and finding them the perfect holiday adventure.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I get to talk about holidays all day! I share stories about the amazing places I've visited during my time at sea and hear about the incredible experiences our guests have had. I often add their suggestions to my bucket list.

What is exciting about working for P&O Cruises?

Unexpected meetings with celebrities! I’ve bumped in to Marco Pierre White and James Martin while I’ve been at work, as they are both Food Heroes on Britannia.

What are the main challenges of your job?

P&O Cruises has so many excellent options that when it comes to advising on a cruise for guests I’m often torn between a few. The easy bit is whittling the cruises down to several options, but the guest has to make the final decision.

What is the best part of your job?

My team and I go to all the cruise shows, which means I get to meet the guests face to face. I love it when I meet people who I've advised over the phone in person. Every couple of weeks, I visit our ships and meet the guests, too.

What has been your favourite destination so far?

Flåm in Norway is so beautiful. It's totally unique. The railway is amazing, but the real hidden gem is definitely the Viking-style pub, complete with a log fire, just outside the port.

What’s your favourite thing to do on board?

I enjoy going to the spa and relaxing, but if I had to pick a favourite it would be the formal nights. Who doesn't enjoy dressing up, drinking Champagne and eating great food? I go to all the Sailaway parties as we leave our home port, because the atmosphere is always electric. There’s live music, cocktails and dancing in the open air.

Is there anything happening right now that you're excited to tell us about?

Oh, nothing... apart from our amazing new ship being nearly ready to set sail! I can't wait to see Britannia and speak to the guests who are already booked on there. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures.
